What Does Grass-Finished Beef Really Mean?

In the farming industry, there are two main dietary practices – the cattle are either Grass-Finished or Grain-Finished. Teton Waters Ranch strives to create high quality products in a sustainable and humane way. We do so by ensuring that our beef cattle are 100% grass-fed, from start to finish. Grass is what cattle have evolved to eat and what nature intended them to eat. Following this dietary standard makes for a happier animal, better quality food for you, and a healthier planet.

By opting for grass-fed beef, we opted out of the unnatural and inhumane way most beef is produced today; where cattle are crammed into feedlots and live far from the grass they love. Often times, these farms produce grain-finished beef for cost-effective reasons. Grain-based diets made up of starch-heavy foods, like corn and soybeans, not only can irritate cattle’s digestive tracts, but also can make them sick. Meat raised in these environments are routinely fed antibiotics and hormones designed to promote cattle growth and prevent diseases. Studies have shown that the wide use of antibiotics actually spread antibiotic-resistant superbugs – a major health threat. TWR strives to do things better by supporting a 100% Grass-Fed & Grass-Finished lifestyle for our cattle.

What Does Grass-Finished Beef Really Mean?

Beef that’s 100% Grass-Fed and Grass-Finished means the cattle have eaten grass for the entirety of their lives, as nature planned for them to do. Raising grass-fed beef cattle on open pastured ranches has many health benefits for the animals, of course, and also creates a higher quality beef product for you and your family. By following our ‘No Feedlot’ commitment, the ranches we partner with allow their animals to roam freely and live harmoniously on the open grasslands, rather than the alternative of being packed into a crowded pen. In their lifetime, our pasture-raised cattle forage for grass, never eat grain, and receive NO antibiotics or hormones, ever. As a result, our end products contain higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acids, CLA’s, and Vitamins A and E – all of which are critical for human health, body metabolism, and support our immune systems.

What Does Grass-Finished Beef Really Mean?

In addition to 100% Grass-Finished beef being better for the animals and better for you – this dietary standard is better for the planet as well. The ranches we partner with practice Regenerative Agriculture, a system of farming that increases biodiversity, enriches soils, and enhances the overall ecosystem. In an effort to restore our planet’s grasslands, this system of farming encourages cattle to mimic the traditional patterns of wild herds. By moving across the grasslands and fertilizing where they eat, the cattle on our ranches naturally aerate soils and help the land flourish sustainably. The animal’s instinctive movements across the grasslands actually sequester carbon into the earth vs. the alternative of emitting unnecessary carbon into the atmosphere with the use of tractors to till and fertilize the soil. Healthy grasslands have been proven to help purify air, reduce threats of droughts and floods, and support wildlife diversity.

TWR stands by our promise that our production process is sustainable and humane. It is important to us that our practices are better for the planet, better for the animals, and ultimately better for you.
