Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it has the best food by a long shot! Seriously, if we could just eat Thanksgiving food for every holiday, I’d be one happy gal!
This year, we’ll be doing an immediate-family Thanksgiving with just me, Chaz, and the kiddos. One of the benefits of having a small family gathering is I’ll get to make all of my yummy paleo-friendly Thanksgiving recipes! Since we’ll be cooking with wholesome ingredients this year, I’m sure our bodies will feel so much better after Thanksgiving dinner.
In past years, over the holidays I’d eat whatever I wanted! But this year’s different. After my recent food sensitivity tests, I won’t be eating anything containing gluten or dairy. And as we all know, the typical Thanksgiving meal is chock full of gluten, grains, dairy, and sugar.
It’s funny, because you’d think I’d be upset about missing out on all the Thanksgiving standards, but I’m actually looking forward to focusing on my health this holiday season. And my paleo Thanksgiving recipes are so delicious, it won’t even feel like missing out.
If you’re making these recipes for your extended family, don’t tell them they are healthier versions. Just serve them and see what they say. This is one of my favorite experiments. People usually can’t even tell — they will just tell you how delicious it is. Below, you’ll find some of my favorite recipes from my blog, Olive You Whole, that will be perfect for your Thanksgiving table.
Ways to Incorporate TWR into your Thanksgiving
Paleo Stuffing Recipe
If I had to choose ONE Thanksgiving recipe to make and eat the rest of my life, it would be this paleo stuffing recipe. Stuffing is, and always has been, my very favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal. If you’re a stuffing lover like me, you will LOVE this new recipe. Take a tip from me: Slice up your favorite Teton Water Ranch sausage and add it in with the onions — you’ll be so glad you did!
My Paleo + Whole30 Green Bean Casserole
While stuffing is clearly my favorite Thanksgiving recipe, green bean casserole is my runner-up. Honestly, I actually eat the two together at the same time — yum! This recipe uses both this cream of mushroom soup and this crispy fried shallot recipes that you can find by clicking those links. This is another recipe that would be greatly improved with some Teton Water Ranch sausage — simply slice the sausages ¼ – ½ inches thick, and toss in with the green beans!
My Paleo + Whole30 Gumbo Recipe
Every other year, we get to spend Thanksgiving in New Orleans. My husband’s cousin hosts us, and the Friday after Thanksgiving, she always makes us THE most delicious gumbo. When I got home last year I just had to make up my own version! I’m personally always looking for ways to use my leftover turkey after Thanksgiving. This is the perfect recipe because you can easily replace the shredded chicken breasts in this recipe with leftover turkey! The spicy andouille sausage from Teton Water Ranch is what truly makes this recipe so delicious!
